Why this blog was created

Hi Everyone,

My name is Michael and I am college student living in the District. My hopes for this blog is to provide you with different places to workout on the Metro’s Red line. The majority of people work on the Red Line as well as I, so I thought it would be nice to have a gym, studio, or center that was close to work so I can get the daily workout completed. Also, I love to workout, so I always like to find a new, cool place to workout. I hope you enjoy the blog as well as gain something from it, and do not be afraid to leave a comment.

Let the journey begin…

Shoes, Shoes, Shoes….

Attention Everyone, I need you help, I think I know what everyone could benefit from and that’s shoes. When we walk into a shoes to buy athletic shoes, we come across 50 different types are shoes but they are serve the same purpose right? Wrong, each shoe was made for a particular purpose but many people do not know that. For example, the Nike Pegasus 31 is a running shoe but a softer running shoe than the Nike Lunarlon due to the cushion used. Also the Pegasus 31 has Nike Zoom in the back portion of the shoe. One might ask what this is or even does, well the Nike Zoom is an air bubble which when pressure is applied displaces it evenly across all surfaces causing less strain on the foot. So if you’re a heal runner like myself we want this shoe but the Nike zoom and the ultra cushion make a pleasant running experience. I could go into more depth about each shoe and category them by brand and by purpose so when the time comes to but a need pair you will know exactly what to get. Nike Pegasus 3

A Yoga Center….

Studio DC is what you would expect from a yoga studio, very focused on the inner self and translating that into physical strength. Studio DC has an array of yoga studios and almost serves as a catalog for the different studios in the DC area, with some in Adams Morgan and others in Dupont Circle. Prices are comparable to yoga studios in the DC area, find those prices here

To be honest, I am not a huge fan of yoga but have seen the benefits of it practice on friends so I will attach some videos  so you can be the judge. 😉

Excel Pilates DC

Excel Pilates DC is a classic Pilates studio that puts the emphasis on the body and mind becoming one with one another. The cool thing about this studio is they have an intro package, a kind way of saying beginner to Pilates.  I like this idea because if I were a beginner, I would want a program where it helps me learn the movements while simultaneously burning calories. Other prices can be found here. I defiantly see the benefits of doing Pilates as I have tried the exercises and they kicked my butt. The proof of concept is here but to solidify it a little click the video below.

Excel Pilates DC is located in Brookline, I hoped this post helps

Living La Vida Loca at VIDA FITNESS

Vida Fitness has numerous locations across the city but it all started at the Verizon Center, so that’s the place we will talk about. The Verizon Center location has over 60 cardio machines ranging from tredmills to rowers to stationary bikes and those who want some added weight, they have a dedicated free weight section. A cool conception VIDA does is that have selectorized machine weights. Now, what does this mean……. they have place all machines that workout the chest muscles in one area, all the machines that workout the back in another separate section and so forth. This makes working out even easier now, no more walking around looking for the leg press machine. Simply, walk over to the legs section and feast your eyes on the latest and greatest leg machines in the market.

Maybe you want a personal trainer? NO problem….. VIDA has some the highest qualified trainers in the area and they allow you to contact them BEFORE YOUR EVEN A MEMBER. VIDA puts the focus on you and wants all your needs to be met. Each personal trainer has their own speciality which shows through each set of the workout. Now, we all know personal training can be expensive and VIDA has recognize the concern so they have made small group training available, all the benefits of personal training with minimal cost. Since you will have a few extra bucks by taking advantage of the group training, I would recommend taking advantage of the nutritional counseling because we all can do a little better with our diet. Click this link to find more information about the personal training details: http://www.vidafitness.com/training#4.

Did I mention this place is HUGE, VIDA Fitness has group classes that you can take advantage of, I know personally I have always enjoyed spinning classes in general because I can get a really good sweat on. But, if I was a member of VIDA Fitness, I would take the “Pound Rockout Class.” It where concert meets cardio as you channel your inner performer and play the latest hits with Ripstix. SO COOLLL….

After your rock out workout, shower up and hit the FUEL Bar to refuel your body so your ready to conquer the day. Oh but before I forget if you forgot to get that haircut and have a special place to be later, VIDA has you covered again… The Bang Salon can make sure you’re not only feeling good but looking good too.

Hope you liked the post and check out VIDA Fitness

Crossfit MetroCenter

 CROSSFIT METROCENTER

CrossFit…… the newest fitness phenomena has come to the Metro Center stop on the red line and this crossFit packs a punch. The gym is only 2 blocks away from the metro stop making it very accessible especially in those time crunch situations. Crossfits memberships are not cheap but remember your buying a life style not a gym. Memberships are dividing into contract length and also amount of times you go. Yes, I know what you’re thinking, if I go everyday then I will be paying a lot. The answer is relative depending on who you are but let me say this, you take classes at this crossfit gym. Every class or workout whatever you wish call it, comes with a coach. This coach is trained and not only makes sure you know what to do but makes sure you do it with form. This is critical in crossfit workouts as the motions are very complex. The coaches want to see you become better so they will push you to the max but always will be there when you need it. They focus on the education of crossfit or the school of crossfit which is great because you can rest assured that you will know the movements and be able to do them well with good form.

This gym has everything you need, focusing more on the workout than the amenities. With that said, it has men’s and women’s lock rooms, with showers, lockers, etc. I cannot to much else about this gym because you need to experience it for yourself and you can. They offer an introductory class where they will teach you different lifts and then….. then you put that to the test as you do your first crossFit workout. Click here to sign up:http://crossfitmetrocenter.com/getting-started/

But just in case your still on fence, check put there Facebook page at CrossFit MetroCenter: https://www.facebook.com/CrossfitMetroCenter?fref=ts

Making Fitness Fun @ Crunch Fitness

Crunch takes the standard gym approach in terms of the what cardio machines it has, types of weights, and the price per month for a membership. BUT, what it does differently is the atmosphere, Crunch makes workout and fitness as whole fun and enjoyable. Since this blog is about the gyms of the Red line of the District, the link is to the Crunch gym in Metro Center. There you can find all the boring information there, below I will put some videos that made me want to get up and go.

Parkour!!!!! This is awesome, I would totally try this class!

Now, I am a cardio junkie but who would not be if this is consider cardio.

p.s This cycling class can help you burn over 800 calories.

KettleBells? YES!!!!

Yes, KettleBells, F3 training and bodywork at the Farragut North metro stop is all about those bells. Speaking from experience, KettleBell workouts are no laughing matter, 2 minutes and I was cooked. I have not been to F3 but if it anything like that KettleBell class I took a few years ago, you have to try it. It seems that F3 has taken the approach of many CrossFit gyms, education is key. F3 is a tier oriented system, where you cannot go to tier 3 without 1 and 2. This is provides the costumer with excellent education on how to use the KettleBells during the workouts. After “graduation” lets call it, you can take the Master sessions, which is HIIT, Viking Warrior Training, and Tabata. Click http://www.f3train.com/get-started/ to see more.

Now, your probably why train KettleBells with these F3 guys? F3’s mission is to provide effective and safe workouts by integrating KettleBell and body weight exercises in a small group training environment. The small groups is great because the instructor can see each of you to ensure your doing the excursuses with proper form. Proper form is everything because without you will get hurt and you will not have any fluidity. F3 focuses on this fluidity concept that once you have the form being fluid with the workout comes next. The more fluid you are during the workout, the better the results will be. You will maximize your output in terms of reps and be able to them with great form.

I have not persuaded you to check out F3 yet?….. Good thing I saved the best for last, do you notice it says trying and bodywork, if not, now you do. We know the training is using KettleBells but what about the bodywork? After that awesome, hardcore KettleBell workout head over to relieve any pain you might be in at the bodywork part of F3. Click here to check it out: http://www.f3train.com/bodywork/

Well, I hope you go see what else F3 has to offer and when you do leave it in the comments below so everyone can benefit.
